New Research: Marriage Rate Declines With Porn Use

Porn makes marriage unappealing

WASHINGTON, DC – An alarming new study has found that pornography use “has an especially strong impact” on the decline in the desire for marriage. Researchers Michael Malcolm and George Naufal concluded Internet use is a substitution for marriage, “especially to the extent that use of pornography can provide low-cost sexual gratification.” The paper, “Are Pornography and Marriage Substitutes for Young Men?” was published by the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA).

“Pornography is a marriage killer and thus it has monumental negative ramifications for society’s future,” said Patrick A. Trueman, President of Morality in Media. “Research has shown for some time that porn use in marriage destroys the marital bond, but now we can see that porn use destroys even the desire to get married,” he said.

The researchers were interested in studying the impact of pornography consumption on men due to the potential socio-economic impacts of declining marriage rates. They cited data establishing that “stable marriages create substantial welfare improvements for society, especially to the degree that marital stability produces high-quality children.” These benefits to society are at risk as the marriage rate decreases, significantly impacted by porn use.
