Social Media Networking 101 for Parents

It’s a rare day when you get a chain email that begins with “Must Read” that lives up to the promise, but I’m surprised to say that today I received one that was thought provoking and contained a worthy message to help educate mums and dads of children using social media networking sites. I have included the email below.

The email is a warning to parents that their kids are unknowingly giving too much personal information to online “friends” without even realising it. Although they don’t use their real names, what they do unknowingly disclose is very subtle information about themselves, such as the name of their sports team, where they go to school, when they’re at home by themselves, what suburb they live in and general family comings and goings.
