Cyber(smart:) guide for families

I was very pleased when my youngest cyber child came home from school today with a brochure her school had handed out titled cyber(smart:) – Cybersmart Guide for Families.

This guide is produced by the Australian Government body the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and has some great common sense explanations about cyber threats faced by Australian families, such as cyberbullying, spam, exposure to inappropriate content and managing your kids social networking usage. 

One of the great things about this guide is the way it not only offers explanations but also suggestions on what parents can do to minimise these threats. It also gave me an opportunity to talk with my kids about their internet usage and experiences and reinforce many of the cyber safety tips we talk about in our family.
